2024 Head Football Coaching Changes | |
Region 1 Leroy - Jason Massey was deployed in the National Guard in early October and handed over the reins to a very capable Chan Lowe the remainder of the 2023 football season. After winning a state championship in 2022 under Massey, Coach Lowe did not disappoint his mentor and brought home a second consecutive title to the town of Leroy. It seems Coach Massey will be deployed for a total of 18 months so Coach Lowe will likely fill that spot for the 2024 football season also. Coach Massey has compiled a record of 97-52 in a dozen seasons at Clarke County and Leroy. 2024 Season - Chan Lowe took over as the interim head football coach at Leroy when Jason Massey was deployed in early October. He led the Bears to their second straight state championship in 1A with a perfect 11-0 record as the Bears completed the season 15-0 for their seventh state title. Fruitdale - John Hobbs leaves Fruitdale after just two seasons with a record of 3-17. 2024 Season - Lane Brown takes over the reins at Fruitdale as the next head football coach. This will be his first head coaching job in football. Region 2 Pleasant Home - Cody Sellers leaves Pleasant Home after two seasons where his teams finished a combined 3-17. 2024 Season - Kevin Bond most recently served as an assistant coach for the Kinston Bulldogs under head coach, Rudy Free. He also served as an assistant coach for the Elba Tigers under head coach Ed Rigby and was a member of the 2015 state championship team. He is a 2013 graduate of Troy University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. In 2017 he graduated UAB with a Master of Arts in English as a Second Language, and is a 2022 graduate of West Alabama in Educational Leadership. Florala - Jordan Cantrell leaves Florala for J.B. Pennington after a couple of 7-4 seasons at the school. Both his teams qualified for the playoffs. 2024 Season - Kyle Davis arrived in Florala in mid July from D.A.R. where he served as the head coach for one season. He has also been the head football coach at Geraldine, Escambia County and West End. Region 3 Pickens Academy - Michael Smith retired from the sidelines after 31 seasons as a head football coach with a record of 163-170. He was at Pickens Academy for two seasons with a record of just 4-16. He was also the head coach at Greensboro, Gordo, Hartselle, Northridge and Southern Academy. His teams reached the playoffs a total of 17 times and won 15 games in the post season. In 2019 his team at Southern Academy finished 10-1 and won an AISA state Championship. 2024 Season - Kyle Fuller returns to his alma mater at Pickens Academy as the head football coach. Fuller spent the last three seasons as the offensive and special teams coordinator at Tuscaloosa Academy. Prior to 2021, he served at Faulkner University as an assistant coach. He was also an assistant at Troy between 2004-2016 first as a graduate assistant until he received his degree. Coach Fuller is a 2004 graduate of Pickens Academy. He will be tasked with leading the football program as they transition from the AISA into the AHSAA in 2024. Region 4 Autauga Academy - Jeremy Carter leaves Autauga Academy with a record of 8-4 after just one season with the program. It was his second stint with the school as he was also the head football coach from 2005-2007. Overall his record sits at 43-35 at Autauga Academy, Billingsley and Prattville Christian in seven seasons as a head football coach. As the Generals venture into the AHSAA in 2024 they will do so under new leadership on the gridiron. 2024 Season - Jeff Foshee was a standout football player at Stanhope Elmore before graduating in 1990. He later played for Gene Stallings and the Alabama Crimson Tide as a walk-on. Foshee played fullback from 1991-94 before graduating in 1995. Foshee returned to Stanhope Elmore in 1996 and became the head football coach in the fall of 2000 succeeding his father. Over the next fifteen seasons, his Mustangs went 105-72. All but four of his teams qualified for the state playoffs and two won region titles. Jimmy Foshee was the head football coach at Stanhope Elmore for 25 years from 1975-99. His Mustangs went 209-83-1 over the course of his career as a head coach. Coach Foshee spent two seasons at Curry in 2019-2020 and accepted a position as the defensive coordinator at Marbury for one season. In 2024 he took over the football program at Autauga Academy. Region 5 Berry Fayette - Hunter Mims leaves Berry after three seasons with a record of 8-22. 2024 Season - Danny Raines returns to Berry after serving as the head coach for fourteen seasons between 2003-2016. His teams at Berry finished a combined 102-59 and 9-12 in the playoffs. Most recently he was the head football coach at Morgan Academy where his teams went 21-23 in four seasons. Sumiton Christian - Jeremy Moon spent just one season at Sumiton Christian and saw his team finish 0-10. Following three consecutive winning season the previous three years the Eagles could not find their winning ways under Coach Moon. This will be the tenth different head coach at Sumiton Christian over the past 20 years. 2024 Season - Jarius Williams lands his first head coaching job at Sumiton Christian this fall. Brilliant - Tanner Harris leaves Brilliant after just one season to return to his hometown in Columbiana to take the head coaching position at Houston County. His one year produced a record of 3-7 at Brilliant. He also served as the boys basketball and softball coach while at Brilliant. 2024 Season - Hayden Bryant was a star football and baseball player at Brilliant and now will be the next head football coach for the Tigers in 2024. He was all-county between 2015-2018. Bryant is a graduate of North Alabama where he was a student assistant coach in 2022 and completed his master's degree in 2023. Region 6 Donoho - Jeremy Satcher leaves Donoho after just two seasons with a 4-15 record including 0-9 last year. His 2022 team did qualify for the playoffs but fell in the first round to Lynn 42-0. 2024 Season - William F. Smith arrives at Donoho having spent fifteen seasons as a head football coach at six different schools. Most recently he led Talladega for two seasons but his teams did not produce a victory going 0-20. His overall record stands at 77-85 during his long career. Victory Christian - Terry Etheredge leaves Victory Christian after just one season with a 4-6 record. 2024 Season - Matt Griffith arrives at Victory Christian with more than 20 years of coaching experience under his belt. His overall record stands at 107-95 at Pell City and Sylacauga. Woodland - Joel Schrenk stepped down as the head football coach in January. He led the football program at Woodland for the past two seasons with a record of 4-16. He leaves after a dozen seasons as the head coach at Falkville, Hazel Green and Woodland. His overall record stands at 60-66. 2024 Season - Kevin Smith returns home to his alma mater at Woodland in 2024 as the head football coach. Smith has 29 years of coaching experience and has been at Lanett, Handley and Benjamin Russell. He graduated from Woodland High School and played football at Jacksonville State. Region 7 Waterloo - Jeremiah Stricklin departs from Waterloo after two seasons with a record of 4-14 including 0-9 last season. 2024 Season - Brad Palmer returns to Waterloo after serving as the head football coach between 2014-2019. His record stands at 27-36 with three playoff appearances. Region 8 Belgreen - New Program 2024 Season - Jonathan Raper spent eleven years as the Phil Campbell baseball coach, before being hired to coach football at Belgreen in August 2023. Under AHSAA regulations, the Bulldogs will only be able to play a junior high and junior varsity schedule for two years before embarking on a season against varsity competition. |
